Late summer is the sweet spot for live music west of Denver: the outdoor amphitheatres are in full swing, the rooms are booked, and many neighborhood stages and markets stay free. Whether you want a big-night amphitheatre show or an easy evening with music and a local beer, here's where to go — and where to find this week's dates. Our live music page always has the current, verified schedule.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre — Morrison
Morrison's Red Rocks Amphitheatre (18300 W Alameda Pkwy) is the region's signature outdoor stage, and its late-August run is packed. This season has included the reggae festival Reggae on the Rocks (with Rebelution, Skip Marley, Third World and more) and Santana's Oneness Tour. Red Rocks is an open-air venue at altitude, so plan for the elements even on a warm day. Browse the full lineup on our live music page or on Red Rocks' official events calendar.
Arvada Center Amphitheatre — Arvada
The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities (6901 Wadsworth Blvd) is a great smaller-format outdoor option — a proper amphitheatre that's far easier to get in and out of than a big stadium. Late summer has brought soul-jazz legends Tower of Power and New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band under the stars. See what's on tonight on our live music and date night pages.
Boulder's historic rooms
For an indoor night out, Boulder's two classic venues — the Fox Theatre (1135 13th St) and the Boulder Theater (2032 14th St) — book strong touring acts year-round, from genre-blending mainstays like Ozomatli to family-friendly kids' shows. Both are a stroll from downtown dining, which makes them easy to pair with dinner. Check our live music page for current listings in Boulder.
Neighborhood stages, taprooms and free markets
Not every great show is a ticketed arena. Neighborhood venues and free community gatherings keep live music going all summer,
- The Bluegrass Lounge in Arvada plays live music nearly every night across its two locations — Olde Town (7415 Grandview Ave) and Candelas (18068 W 92nd Ln) — with regular weekly slots and no cover for many shows.
- Superior's Summer Market in downtown Superior (2250 Main St) pairs local vendors and food with live music on market evenings — free.
- Boulder County Farmers Market's Saturday market is a free, family-friendly way to catch local musicians along with the produce on 13th Street.
A few notes on outdoor shows
- Bring layers — Front Range evenings cool off fast, and amphitheatre seats are exposed.
- Arrive early for parking; Red Rocks and the Arvada Center both draw crowds at show time.
- Dates can shift, so confirm what's actually on before you go — our live music page carries the verified schedule, and our this-weekend page shows the next few days at a glance.
- Lots of taproom and market shows are free or low-cover — a low-commitment way to catch live music midweek.
From a Red Rocks bucket-list night to a free blues set at a taproom, there's live music west of Denver for every mood and budget. Start with our live music page for the full verified lineup, our free events page where a no-cost show matters, and our this-weekend page for what's on in the next few days.
